How Did I Get it So Wrong?

Being a Christian simply means follower of Christ, something we Christians sometimes get wrong.

Recent years have been extremely tough and at times I didn't even recognise myself. Trauma will do that to a person. And if you don't know yourself well enough, I mean having let Christ highlight and heal all the dark places of your soul, that baggage, those learned behaviours that have served you so faithfully in the years gone by, those habits that brought you to your knees in the first place, those generational patterns, are likely to resurface in hard times.

This was true for me. Some may say I was possessed, me, I say I was broken. And it's not the first time. Put simply, I missed the mark. I let my emotions direct my decisions and the 'ugly' was unleashed!

As saddened as I am by these years, God does not leave a stone unturned. He uses everything we go through in our walk here on earth as an opportunity for growth and redemption. It's simple really, its us humans that complicate it.

The simple act of remaining in His Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to our soul in all situations, is what is meant by following Christ. And it can save us from a thousand traumas.

In the natural, life could look bleak, a fallen soul unworthy of a voice. And if I chose to believe the condemnation of society I would probably agree, and remove myself from the story. Deem myself unworthy of a future in Christ. The story He wrote for me before I was born, and has prophesied over me more than once. But God doesn't condemn He convicts. His whole message is one of grace. Crucifixion for the redemption of our soul.

So, from what looks bleak to the natural eye is God's redeeming power at work. The important part of our journey is that we listen to that conviction and grow.

"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15: 4-5
